In a remarkable display of applying their community health nursing knowledge, the students of MCU-College of Nursing (CON) embarked on a mission to serve the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in Candon City, Ilocos Sur. From April 10 to 21, 2023, these dedicated individuals put their skills into action, making a significant impact on the community's healthcare landscape.
During their time in the GIDAs, the nursing students embraced immersive experiences and worked closely with the local government unit's (LGU) healthcare team. The collaborative effort enabled the students to gain invaluable insights into the unique challenges faced by these remote communities when it comes to accessing healthcare services. By fully immersing themselves in the daily lives of the residents, they were able to identify crucial needs for essential services and programs.
Armed with their knowledge and guided by their passion for community health, the Centralinos worked tirelessly to implement essential services and programs within the GIDAs. They organized health screenings, facilitated health education workshops, and initiated preventive measures to promote overall well-being. By engaging with community members and fostering a sense of empowerment, they aimed to create sustainable improvements in health outcomes.
The MCU-College of Nursing students' community health nursing initiative in Candon City GIDAs serves as a shining example of the positive impact that can be made when knowledge is applied in practical settings. Congratulations to MCU-College of Nursing for the successful community immersion in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, and may the learnings obtained inspire others to join in the pursuit of health equity and community empowerment.
