Manila Central University-College of Nursing (MCU-CON) students achieved a notable accomplishment as they secured first place in the student category at the 4th Biennial International Nurse Educators and Practitioners (NEPra) Guild, Inc. Research Conference 2023, which took place on July 6 and 7, 2023, at Palacio Del Sur in Zamboanga City.
Under the theme of "Our Nurses Together: A Force for Global Health," the event provided a valuable platform for nursing professionals to converge and exchange knowledge and insights.
A group of four 3rd-year nursing students, namely Ms. Nicole J. Castillejos, Ms. Kayla Casandra G. Delarmente, Ms. Katrina H. Fuentebella, and Mr. Herold Jeusczar C. Buenconsejo, participated in the conference. Out of a total of 84 abstracts submitted, their research study was selected to compete in the "Concurrent Session 4: Quality Nursing and Patient Care," which focused on advancing the field of nursing.
Under the guidance of Dr. Michael John Flores, the research group explored the experiences of transsexual women undergoing feminizing hormone therapy. Their baccalaureate research study, titled "Emancipation Through Metamorphosis: A Phenomenological Photovoice Exploration Study on the Transition Experiences of Transsexual Women Undergoing Feminizing Hormone Therapy," employed picture interpretation and analysis to delve into the multidisciplinary aspects of gender sociology, with a particular focus on nursing perspectives.
